Frequently asked questions
Good to know
Nothing. Posting jobs, sending quotes and everything else on Verka is free. You pay the tradesperson for the work directly — Verka handles no payments and takes no commission.
Every tradesperson on Verka is identified through island.is, and their licences are taken from the official register of licensed tradespeople. Each profile shows which trades the person is licensed in, and when you post a job you can limit quotes to those licensed in the trade or a related trade. A related trade applies in only two cases: an electrical machinery mechanic can quote for electrical work, and a furniture maker for carpentry. A quote from them is marked “Related trade”, so you see it before you accept it.
No. Quotes and acceptances on Verka are statements of intent, not a contract. A tradesperson can withdraw their quote as long as you have neither accepted nor declined it. If you decline a quote, they can send one new quote with an explanation while the job is open. Once you have accepted a quote, the two of you agree the contract between yourselves, preferably in writing.
Yes. Choose “Request a quote” on the tradesperson’s profile or the company’s page. You can send a job you have already posted, or describe a new one and decide whether only the recipient sees it or everyone does.
While the job is open for quotes, you can delete it. Once a quote has been accepted, both you and the tradesperson can cancel the job with a short explanation, which the other party sees.
Either of you marks the job as completed on Verka. You can then review each other — the review of the tradesperson appears on their profile and helps others choose.
Yes, by email: when a quote arrives for your job, when your quote is accepted or declined, when you have unread messages, when you receive a request for a quote, when you are invited to join a company and when Verka verifies or closes a company you registered. Tradespeople also get one email a day with new jobs posted in their trade and area, only when there is something new. You choose which emails you get under Settings → Notifications.
Yes. A company with a kennitala can register on Verka and send quotes in its own name: for every job open to everyone, and for jobs that require a licence when someone in the company is licensed in the trade, because licences belong to people. The company gets a shared inbox for quotes and messages and its own page on Verka. Companies do not post jobs on Verka; individuals do. You do not have to be the company’s representative to register it: if you hold procuration, sit on the board or are the managing director according to the company register, it is verified at once; otherwise Verka verifies it once proof of your authority has arrived. You register a company under Settings → Company, and you can see registered companies at verka.is/en/fyrirtaeki.
Under Settings → Security & data. Your personal information is deleted and your account closed. Jobs, quotes, messages and reviews connected to other users remain, without anything that identifies you. Deleted data disappears from backups as they expire.
